East Haddam Town Beach Parking Permit Regulations

As of Saturday, May 24, 2025 all vehicles must have a Town of East Haddam permit or visitor’s daily pass to park at the Town Beach through September 1 (Labor Day). The Town Beach is open daily from dawn until dusk. Lifeguards are on duty daily from 10am-5pm, beginning June 19. All visitors must adhere to the beach regulations (below) or will be asked to leave.


PROCEDURES FOR PERMANENT RESIDENT PASSES
Town permits may be obtained at no cost from the
East Haddam Public Works Department. If you do not have a current permit, we will accept a driver’s license with current East Haddam/Moodus/Lake Hayward address noted. If driver’s license does not include an East Haddam/Moodus/Lake Hayward address, a suitable proof of residency such as tax bill or utility bill must also be presented. Driver’s license or photo ID will be matched with either the tax bill or utility bill.
Note: Registered motorcycles require a parking pass.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR VISITORS/NON-RESIDENTS
Non-resident daily passes may be obtained in person from the Town Beach parking attendant. Parking pass must be placed on the car dashboard, so it is visible to beach attendant. Please note, there is no parking on the street and there is NO OVERNIGHT PARKING ALLOWED.

A non-resident season pass may be purchased at our Parks and Rec Office (1 Plains Road, Moodus, CT 06469) or on our website
www.easthaddamrec.com (must create an account). Season passes are not available for purchase at the beach. A completed application must accompany payment. If paying by check, please make payable to: EHPR, P.O. Box 385, Moodus, CT  06469. All season passes will be mailed to the address provided or may be picked up in person at the Parks and Rec Office. Season passes must be hung from rear-view mirror so they are visible to beach attendant. Please note parking on the street  and OVERNIGHT PARKING ARE NOT ALLOWED.

GENERAL REFERENCES

162-1. Hours.
The area shall be open from sunrise to sunset, with exceptions by
permission of the Recreation Director.
 
162-2. Parking regulations.
Vehicles are not allowed across the pond causeway to the swimming
and picnic area without staff permission.
Parking cars and boat trailers shall be limited to designated areas only.
 
162-3. Beach regulations.
Swimming is allowed in the designated area only.
When no lifeguards are on duty, swim at your own risk.
No glassware or bottles are allowed.
Refuse shall be placed in designated containers.
No animals or pets are allowed.
Only United States Coast Guard approved flotation devices are allowed.
Athletic equipment is allowed in designated areas only.
No smoking or vaping.
No open flames (including bonfires and grills) unless prior written
approval is obtained from the Recreation Director.
 
162-4. Boat regulations.
All boats must be launched and stored in the designated area.
No boats or water skiers are allowed within 100 feet of the swimming
area.
Boats, cars or trailers may not be left in the area after closing time.
 
162-5. Alcoholic beverages.
The consumption of alcoholic beverages shall not be permitted on Town
beach property, including the parking lot and fields, and no alcoholic
beverages, whether in open or sealed containers, are permitted on Town
beach property, including the parking lot and fields, without prior
permission from the Board of Selectmen.
 
162-6. Penalties for offenses.
Anyone violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall be fined not more
than $250 and be subject to loss of park privileges.

18+ Pick-up Basketball
: Monday 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., May 5, 12, 19. Thursday 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., May 29. $16 for session or $5 drop-in. Municipal Gym.

30+ Pick-up Basketball: Sunday 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., May 4, 18 (No May 11 or 25). $8 for session or $5 drop-in. East Haddam Elementary Gym.

16+ Open Gym Soccer: Monday 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. May 5, 12, 19 (No May 26). $12 session. $5 Drop-in. Municipal Gym.

Boot Camp: Ages 16+. Boot Camp Fitness offers custom small group training sessions offered by a Certified Personal Trainer.  Our sessions focus on exercises and functional training.  A 60-minute workout with a 15-minute ending stretch will improve your core strength and balance. May 20 - July 10. Classes will be held in the Old Town Hall on Town Street on Tuesday, 6:00 - 7:15 p.m. and Municipal Gym on Thursday, 5:45 - 7:00 p.m. 1x/week $64, 2x/week $96, or $10 drop-in.

Gentle Yoga: This class is appropriate for all levels of fitness or yoga experience. Ages 16 and up. Improve your strength and flexibility while decreasing stress. Enjoy moving your body and breathing mindfully! Sunday: April 13 - May 25 (No Apr. 20). 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Senior Center. Wednesday: April 16 - May 21. 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. $60 for each 6 week session or $15 for a single class. 

18+ Pickleball Sessions: Monday, May, 5, 12, 19 (No May 26). 9:30 -11:30 a.m. - Intermediate. Tuesday, May 6, 13, 20 (No May 27). 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.- Intermediate/Advanced.  Wednesday, May 7, 14, 21, 28. 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. - Beginner/ Intermediate; 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. - Intermediate/Advanced. Friday, May 2, 9, 16, 30 (No May 23). 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.- Open to all levels. Register on-line for sessions, $60 Pickleball Club Card, or $8 drop-in. Municipal Gym.

Basketball Summer Training: Grades 5 - 12. Participants will receive personalized training to enhance their basketball skills. Taught by basketball player, Mamush Ciccarello. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Session 1: June 3 - 19, Session 2: July 8 - 24, Session 3: July 29 - August 14. Grades 5 - 8, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Grades 9 - 12, 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. $90 per session or $20 daily drop-in. Municipal Gym.

Food Explorers Camp: Grades 1 - 4. Join Food Explorers for a chocolatey week exploring doughs, batters and more! Each day you’ll be making two recipes featuring your favorite ingredient, chocolate! You’ll be making Scratch Pop-Tarts, Chocolate Fudge Buns, Chocolate Lattice Pies and Chocolate Layer Cakes! All recipes are nut-free and vegetarian but will contain dairy, eggs, and gluten. Monday, June 30 - Thursday July 3, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Nathan Hale-Ray middle School. Cost $144.

STEM Innovations with LEGOS Camp: Ages 6 - 10. Design and innovate with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects and an inquiry-based learning classroom model. Time to see STEM in action! Monday - Thursday, June 30 - July 3, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Municipal Gym. Cost $135.

Noises Sports Academy: Grades 1 - 9, varies by sport. Home School Family Open Gym: Open gym offers a safe place for homeschool families to get together, burn off some energy, and have fun! Bring your family and sports/game equipment to the Municipal Gym. Parks & Rec equipment is available upon request. Suitable for all ages.Tuesday, May 6, 13, 20 (No May 27). 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Registration required. $5 per family.

Stop the Bleed Course: This is a FREE 60-90 minute class presented by STOP THE BLEED, American College of Surgeons. Learn how to stop bleeding until the First Responders arrive.Third Monday of every month. Next class is May 19, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Municipal Building, Meeting Room 3.

American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED Class: Ages 14+. This course trains participants to provide First Aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner to victims of any age. This course completes the requirements for  babysitting, childcare workers, athletic coaches and camp counselors. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an American Heart Association certificate valid for two years. Participant manual included with course fee. Saturday, May 31, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. or Wednesday, June 4, 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Municipal Building, Parks & Rec Activity Room. Cost $84.

American Red Cross When I’m in Charge Class:  Ages 9-12. Participants will learn the safe way to stay home alone. This class can help students make safe decisions and begin to feel more comfortable with their skills and abilities. Topics include internet safety, sibling care, and basic emergency care. Classes will be taught by a certified American Red Cross instructor. Participants must be at least 9 years old to take this class. Thursday, May 8, 5:15 - 6:45p.m. Parks & Rec Activity Room. Cost $32.

American Red Cross CPR For Babysitters: This is an extension of our ARC Babysitting Course. It is open to all those who have previously taken our babysitting class. This class will certify babysitters in Basic First Aid as well as Infant and Child CPR. Ages 11 - 18. June 17 & 24. 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Parks & Rec Activity Room, Municipal Building. Cost $72.
